International Vocational Qualification in Health and Social Care (IVQ in HSC)
This Vocational Qualification is now being delivered in Zambia and awarded by The Bournemouth and Poole College, UK and registered with TEVETA.
Who is this course for?: Anyone aged 18 or over who wants to get into healthcare, someone who is seeking to change their profession as well as a person who is currently working as a carer and would like to undergo professional training.
Entry Requirements: The candidate will need to have completed Grade 12 or equivalent and be proficient in English and Maths. In exceptional cases we will consider grade 9 and above.
Course Structure: The qualification consists of four units. Each unit involves classroom study and work placement for practical experience. Work placements are in arranged in with hospitals, clients or private homes where students will be observed and assessed. There are no final exams and students will be assessed on case studies, written work and workplace observations.
- Communication and Record Keeping in Health and Social Care: This unit covers the different communication methods and record keeping requirements for a care setting, which you will need to demonstrate practically.
- Maintaining Health and Safety of Yourself and Others: This unit covers the how to function effectively as a care worker while maintaining health and safety of the individual, the other staff and yourself.
- Principles and Practical Aspects: This unit covers the underlying principles of care and how they are applied in practice. To develop an understanding of equality and diversity in relation to everyone within the care sector. As well as showing you how to work competently and effectively in a care setting providing day to day care for individuals.
- Protection of Vulnerable People: This unit covers different types of abuse and your role and responsibility for the protection of vulnerable people. Be able to respond appropriately in instances of abuse. To understand the responsibility for recording and reporting.
This course is the equivalent of Level 2 UK Vocational Health and Social Care Course and underpins all health and social care training that a UK caregiver would receive. The training is delivered in the same way as in the UK, with locally trained Zambian assessors and a UK external verifier. This maintains the integrity of the course and ensures high standards are delivered.
